Maureen Lynda Masamba holds a first degree Bachelors of Education in English and African Languages, and an Executive Masters in Business Administration. After 3 years of teaching at High School, I joined the Publishing Industry as a Field Editor with Longman Malawi (Now Pearson Education) in 2000. As a Field Editor, the tasks revolved around interaction with authors, illustrators, translators, almost like a manuscript traffic controller. This task provided a great platform for me to know and understand the publishing process and its stakeholders. At Longman, I received the best training across the different stages of publishing. I am currently Publishing Manager at Dzuka Publishing Company Ltd since 2005. My passion is publishing for Children and my vision is to create a Children Books Publishing Hub with books written for children by children and women.
I was the first female to be the President of the Book Publishers Association of Malawi having served as a Secretary and Treasurer in different terms. During my tenure as a President, the Association had its first audited accounts in 12 years, we were able to secure funding through proposals from Global Book Alliance (USAID) for a project to develop Children Story books, from Norwegian Publishers (Kopinor), a project to develop textbooks in Arts and Culture, and also a grant from Copyright Fund for a project to conduct Anti Piracy Campaigns in Education Centres.
I was the first female to be the Board Chairperson for Copyright Society of Malawi (COSOMA), a quasi government institution which administers copyright related functions. During my tenure, the Soceity introduce the Blank Media Levy which benefits the creatives and author and publishers inclusive.
I currently sit on the board of African Publishers Network (APNET) as the Honorary Secretary and the only female on the Board.
My publishing journey has benefited from several fellowships like Sharjah International Book Fair, Chennai International Book Fair. I have made presentations at platforms ADEA, at APNET publishing conferences in Zimbabwe and Morocco. I sat as a mentor at the PublisHer lounge at the SIBF 2024 and and a Jury for the PublisHer Excellence Awards for 2025.
